Luangwa Safari House

Luangwa Safari House, South Luangwa, Zambia

If you love the idea of a remote African safari but don’t want to stay in a camp with a lot of strangers, this is the place for you. Luangwa Safari House is, quite simply, one of the most stylish and luxurious pads in all Africa – perfect for families or groups of friends travelling together.

Designed by Neil Rocher, the house sits on a private estate on the edge of the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. It sleeps eight in four large ensuite bedrooms and has a spectacular open-plan living area overlooking a plunge pool and private dining terrace.

With its own dedicated team of chefs, waiters and safari guides, the house offers five-star pampering and a guarantee of total privacy. The wooden terrace – with large dining table, leather sofa and hanging chair – is suspended between giant ebony trees. Beneath it is a seasonal lagoon where families of elephants come to bathe.

The house oozes style. Built around a main frame of two dozen ancient Leadwood trees, it has been constructed using locally-sourced materials and topped with a magnificent thatched roof. Each of the four bedrooms is uniquely styled, and bathrooms all have individual themes, with fixtures made from copper, recycled sandblasted aluminium, Zambian marble and weathered timber.

The living room has a vast 30-lamp metal chandelier designed by Matt Peacock, plus a huge marble dining table and large comfortable sofas. The two hand-carved staircases lead to a suspended wooden balcony where you can sit out at night and enjoy a moonlit view of the bush against a dramatic backdrop of the Chindeni Hills.

The house is owned by Robin Pope Safaris, the most highly regarded safari operator in Zambia, which has its operational base at Nkwali Camp, 1km away. So, while you have the thrill of splendid isolation, you also benefit from the advantages of a fully-serviced luxury safari lodge.

Robin Pope Safaris provides your private vehicles, safari guides and an armed scout for walking safaris, ensuring you enjoy the very best possible game viewing experience.

Robin Pope Safaris pride themselves in their “family friendly safaris” and Luangwa Safari House makes an ideal base for a family. Some rooms can be converted from doubles to twins – plus supervised activities and child minding can be arranged. The minimum age for children is seven.
